SUMMARY:SFAP Story Slam
DESCRIPTION:I am the Guest Teller at the May 6th Six Feet Apart Productions Story Slam. Last month the guest teller was Ingrid Nixon\, and the last time before that I attended\, it was Bil Lepp. So\, I am sorry to the May audience that they only get me. But since I am telling a story while votes are being cast\, I assume no one will be listening anyway. Which is good\, because I plan to sing. 😉 \nThey still have 4 slots available for any storytellers who want to try to win the coveted SFAP mug. \nDetails and Registration Here.

SUMMARY:Storytelling Performance in MD
DESCRIPTION:I am excited to return to Stories in the Round for another solo show. I premiered “Tech Babies” there\, the solo show about IVF and prenatal complications that I have performed all over the country\, and that makes up three chapters in Stages: My Life in Stories. \nBut in April\, I will be premiering a new solo show. I’m thinking of it as a descent into the mystic\, or an ascent into the mythic. Either way\, I believe we will start in reality and then step away from mundanity. \nStories In The Round is a storytelling series at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hagerstown\, 13245 Cearfoss Pike\, Hagerstown\, MD generally the 4th Monday of the month. \n$12 in advance\, $15 at the door. Children 12 & older welcome when accompanied by a parent or group leader. \nContact: Fanny Crawford\, 301-730-1638 or fanitsky@hotmail.com

SUMMARY:Author Event at Winchester Book Gallery
DESCRIPTION:I will be telling stories\, taking questions and signing copies of my new memoir\, Stages: My Life in Stories\, on November 16th\, starting at 11:00am\, at the Winchester Book Gallery in beautiful Winchester\, VA. Come for the books\, stay for the stories. \nAbout the Stages: My Life in Stories:\nIn Stages: My Life in Stories\, spoken-word storyteller Jessica Robinson has collected twenty-five stories that span from her childhood in the eighties to the creation of her own children through IVF. The collection is meant to be read as a memoir in stories. Each story is complete in and of itself\, but represents a different pivotal moment\, a different stage in the life of the storyteller. \n“Jessica’s stories create a work of heart. Each chapter reads like a conversation in which I listen to an old friend’s experiences\, and recognize my own. Thoughtfully written\, presented in pastel touches of humor and pathos\, this book is an appreciation of all the colors of a life.”\n– Lyn Ford\, spoken-word storyteller and author \n“Oh\, this book is subtle and delightful. At first glance\, it’s a memoir\, a collection of amusing\, moving stories that follow the author through her life. As you reach the end of the book\, of course\, you see the larger picture\, like an image arising out of mosaics. \n\nBut it’s also a masterclass on storytelling\, and Jessica Piscitelli Robinson a master storyteller. She holds our attention while using a variety of story forms\, clearly enjoying playing with screenplays and allusions to Greek myths. Each story wraps up perfectly\, making a compelling and complete package.”\n– Author Anne Janzer \n\n\nPublisher Information:\nStages is published by Tucker DS Press\nhttps://www.tuckerdspress.com/books\nAbout The Winchester Book Gallery:\nThe Winchester Book Gallery is the 51-year old\, independent\, locally owned bookstore serving the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. As a cornerstone of our community\, we offer new books\, Local Art\, Cards\, Book Fairs and Special Orders. The Book Gallery regularly hosts book signings\, book clubs and community nights. In addition\, we offer everyday discounts for teachers and book clubs. The Winchester Book Gallery inspires\, informs and amuses customers with compelling book selections and a diverse selection of other merchandise. \nAbout the Author:\nJessica Robinson is the Founding Executive Director of Better Said Than Done\, the Northern Virginia-based storytelling organization that\, in addition to its semi-monthly shows\, hosts the annual Women’s Storytelling Festival. A spoken-word storyteller\, Jessica has performed at Exchange Place at the International Storytelling Festival\, on WGBH’s “Stories from the Stage\,” and for the Stone Soup\, the Washington Folk\, the Florida\, and the Hampton Storytelling festivals. Jessica is a 2023 ORACLE Award recipient from the National Storytelling Network. In addition to magazines\, reviews\, and anthologies\, Jessica is the author of Caged (under pen name JP Robinson) and co-author of the anthology Roar: True Tales of Women Warriors.

SUMMARY:Mostly True Story
DESCRIPTION:On October 19th\, 2024\, I will be joining the cast of (mostly) True Things\, in Port Jefferson\, NY\, for their 10 year anniversary show! (mostly) True Things comes from the wonderful and wild brain of Jude Treder-Wolff. A show in which storytellers share mostly true stories\, and the audience has to figure out the lie. \n(mostly) TRUE THINGS is a game wrapped in a storytelling show. True stories that range from wildly comedic to fascinating to profound – are told by a fantastic line-up of performers. All but one of the storytellers include subtle little lies in their story. In Act 2\, the audience gets to question the storytellers – who can improvise their responses – then votes for the person they think told their story with no lies. Some improvised\, story-inspired music and songs written for the show by host/creator Jude Treder-Wolff are additional ingredients for a high-energy\, often hilarious\, emotion-packed and entertaining show. There are prizes involved\, if you can believe a thing like that. \nThe show opens with an “open mic” portion in which audience members can share their own brief true story on the theme of the evening. The themes for this 10th anniversary show are: ANNIVERSARIES and 10! With storytellers Jessica Piscitelli Robinson\, Rita Rigano\, Ihab Ibrahim\, and Adam Grundfest.

SUMMARY:Teaching Storytelling to an Agency
DESCRIPTION:I will be leading a storytelling workshop for an agency as part of their conference on communication for their corporate leadership team. This event is not open to the public\, but it’s on my calendar and I am preparing for my part nonetheless. \nAs a business owner for over 20 years. I have worked in corporate leadership\, communications and marketing\, and organizational storytelling\, even discounting my over 15 years of teaching storytelling. I understand goals and missions and teams – and how all of those tie in and are tied together with an organization’s narrative. Or\, at least\, they can be – if the storytelling makes sense. \nI work to craft each workshop so it works for my clients\, and so it meets the needs of my clients. And I am already working towards those goals for my October workshop. \nI teach storytelling through community centers\, libraries\, and for organizations that hire me. Primarily\, though not exclusively\, I teach and am booked through Better Said Than Done. If you are a community center\, library\, story center\, organization\, adult education center\, middle grade school through university\, or individual looking for public speaking or storytelling coaching\, please feel free to reach out to me to discuss a storytelling workshop or course. Whether you wish to hire me as an independent workshop leader or through Better Said Than Done\, email me here.
